Asbest på La Scala-operan

Milan´s La Scala has closed the uppermost seating gallery in the storied opera house while work is carried out to remove asbestos discovered months earlier, theater and city officials said Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009. The opera house said some 270 seats in the top loggia will be closed and ticketholders offered "upgrades" to better seats when available or their money back, during the work, which is expected to be finished by the end of October. 270 sittplatser är nu oåtkomliga på grund av saneringsarbete.
Daily Telegraph rapporterar att man hittade asbesten i innertaket i december förra året, men att man omedelbart isolerade takområdet för att förhindra olyckor.
Under lördagen öppnar La Scala för säsongen med Shakespeares "En midsommarnattsdröm" på repertoaren.
De som har köpt biljetter till föreställningen och har platser som har drabbats, kompenseras genom nya sittplatser eller med att få pengarna tillbaka.
La Scala-operan i Milano byggdes 1778 och är kanske världens mest berömda operascen. Solister som Luciano Pavarotti och Jussi Björling uppträdde ofta här under sina respektive karriärer.
